Privacy notice

What personal data Stackguide handles, and your rights.

Last updated: 23 October 2026

This notice explains how Stackguide (stackguide.io) handles personal data. It is written in plain English and is not legal advice.

1. Who we are

Simon Wright, trading as Stackguide, is the data controller for this website.

2. What we collect today

Stackguide is a reading site. You don't need an account, and we do not collect your email address or any other contact details through the site at the moment. The newsletter sign-up form (Stackable) is switched off until our data handling is signed off.

DataWhyLawful basis (UK GDPR)
Technical request data our hosting provider handles when you load a page (such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request)Deliver the website, keep it secure and fix faultsLegitimate interests (running a secure, reliable website)
Messages you email to usReply to youLegitimate interests (responding to you)

We don't sell personal data, and we don't make automated decisions about you, including profiling.

3. Cookies and browser storage

We don't set advertising, affiliate or analytics cookies. The site saves your light or dark theme choice in your own browser's local storage, so the page remembers it. That choice stays on your device and isn't sent to us. Under PECR this counts as strictly necessary for a feature you asked for.

If we add analytics, affiliate or advertising tools later, we'll update this notice first and ask for your consent wherever the law requires it, before anything loads.

4. Who provides our services

RoleProviderNotes
Website hostingVercel Inc.Serves the site. Our project runs in Vercel's London region, but Vercel is a US company and may process request data in other countries.
DatabaseSupabaseHosted in the EU (Ireland). It is set up to hold the future mailing list. No visitor data from this site is stored there today.
Email sending (planned)ResendNot active yet. It will only be used to send the newsletter to people who sign up and confirm.

We use each provider as a processor to run the service for us. We'll update this notice before we add a provider that handles your personal data.

5. When the newsletter opens

When sign-up opens, we'll ask for your email address and your clear consent (no pre-ticked boxes), send a confirmation email first, and include an unsubscribe link in every email. We'll update this notice with the details, including how long we keep subscriber records, before we collect any email addresses.

6. International transfers

Some providers may process data outside the UK. When that happens, we rely on an appropriate safeguard, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

7. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes above. Hosting request logs are kept for our provider's standard log retention period. We keep emails you send us for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct, delete or restrict your personal data, object to processing based on legitimate interests and, where it applies, ask for portability. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

To use any of these rights, email security@stackguide.io.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/

9. Children

Stackguide is aimed at adults who build or research software. We do not knowingly collect children's data.

10. Changes

We'll update this notice when our practices or providers change, and change the date at the top.
