How we check

What it is

Stripe takes card payments and runs subscriptions. You are the seller, so your business is responsible for VAT and sales tax; Stripe Tax can calculate it for a fee. Checkout gives you a hosted payment page and the Customer Portal lets subscribers manage their own plan.

Good for

  • Subscriptions and one-off payments where you are happy to be the seller
  • UK businesses: fees are published in pounds

Watch out for

  • Fees are a percentage of each payment, so at scale they become most of the monthly bill
  • Tax handling is your job unless you add Stripe Tax
  • Verify webhook signatures so fake payment events are rejected
